Large-scale implementation ofsecurity systems at VimpelComs network base stations in 52 Russian cities

The issue of trouble-free operation of Beeline's technical facilities has a special meaning. Our strategy Simple. Convenient. For you! presents us with the ambitious task of fulfilling the needs and desires of each client, no matter where they are. Any interruptions in the smooth operation of communications facilities, especially in sparsely populated and remote regions of Russia, may deprive the inhabitants of villages or entire regions in the Far East, Siberia and the Extreme North of communications. This is precisely why we are paying special attention to this and making strict requirements to ensure the fail-safe operation of all communications facilities, including those located in extreme climatic conditions. We see this as the mobile operator's social mission because stable mobile communications raises the quality of life and creates the prerequisites for economic development in all areas.

Vyacheslav Kushchenko, Director of Tangible Assets of VimpelCom

Project description

Asteros is the general contractor for design and implementation of automatic gaseous fire suppression systems and fire alarm and public address systems at the operators network base stations, data centers, server rooms and other technical facilities.

The project covered 52 cities.

The first stage of the project involved 26 Russian cities and over time the geographical range of the project doubled. By the end, the design, procurement, construction and installation, and commissioning phases had all been completed on schedule. The timeframe of the design phase totaled 11 months.

Fire suppression equipment from Russian manufacturers was chosen as the basis of the technical solution. This equipment helps to proactively avert the risk of fires and minimize expenses for restoring the operability of facilities. Among the main equipment suppliers were Russian enterprises specializing in the development, design, and installation of integrated fire alarm and gaseous fire suppression systems, such as the Pozharnaya Avtomatika Servis research and production organization, the POZH-TEKHNIKA trading company, and BOLID.

Project results

Among VimpelCom’s key tasks are developing networks and increasing the quality of communications. In addition to improving conditions for city residents, the company continues to invest in signal communications support for hard-to-reach and remote areas.

Due to the mobile operator’s efforts, dozens of distant settlements in Yakutia, Primorsky Krai, Chukotka, Kamchatka, the Jewish Autonomous Region, and the Ust-Orda Buryat Autonomous District of the Irkutsk Region received mobile coverage for the first time in 2014.
